Helping You Help Your Child

Our Services:  How We Can Help

At Your Service

When a child is troubled or hurting, it’s only natural to want to do everything in your power to help them. And that’s what inspires and motivates Clovis Counseling and Valente Orozco, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

To quote Mr. Orozco, “Our mission is to promote children’s emotional and behavioral health by bringing together the school, home, and community through advocacy, therapy, and resource coordination”.

Listed below are some of the ways we can help you and the children in your care. We’re Clovis Counseling , and we’re at your service.

Assessments & Evaluations

Clovis Counseling believes that assessments and evaluations should take into consideration not only the child but the family, school and community as well. At Clovis Counseling we seek out information and/or involvement from others in an individual's life when possible. This lets us bridge gaps and improve communication in order to put all the pieces together in a comprehensive evaluation. With all the information gathered, an informed plan for treatment is then developed in collaboration with the family.

Individual Therapy

Our approach to therapy looks at the whole person within the context of their life. We seek to understand the impact of experience, past and present, to inform our work together in the present moment. Further informed by neuroscience, we understand that the therapeutic experience can support change as an individual gains deeper awareness of what IS, rather that what SHOULD be.

Using a Gestalt therapy framework, the therapy experience and the therapeutic relationship become new elements in the field of your life. Through this work we can come to understand more clearly the processes through which you experience yourself and your world. As we develop greater awareness of the HOW in the current moment, we can discover a richer and more satisfying array of options for fuller living.

Play Therapy

For children, therapy utilizes their own language: play. Clovis Counseling offers services by Valente Orozco, LCSW a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor and Certified Gestalt Therapist with Children and Adolescents. These specialized credentials and experience ensure that your child is receiving quality services from a trained professional.

Through the use of Play, therapy can be delivered in a way that children understand and can take in. Play Therapy supports the child’s development of an improved sense of self and ability to more effectively communicate their needs, thoughts and feelings to the world around them. Using Play from a Gestalt Therapy perspective provides the child experiences to build and strengthen their sense of self, understand and express their emotions, and to become self-nurturing and compassionate.

With a strong sense of self, an ability to engage with their world more effectively, and integration of self-nurturing and self-compassion processes, children can experience themselves in a full and satisfying way. With this experience of themselves, they can then consider, experiment with, and ‘try on’ new ways of being and new behaviors.

Safe & Sound

Clovis Counseling is a Trained & Certified Provider for Unyte's Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP).  SSP is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music.

Family Therapy

Among the many issues that may be the focus of therapy, family communication and interaction is one which requires specialized treatment. Family Therapy seeks to identify patterns of communication and interactions, patterns which keep families “stuck” and lead to continued arguments and frustrations. The benefits of family therapy are often seen within each individual member of the family unit.

Clovis Counseling offers family therapy utilizing a variety of orientations in order to increase positive interactions, connectedness and communication within the family.

Teletherapy & Online Therapy

Sometimes referred to as Telehealth or online therapy, Teletherapy is a unique alternative to meeting in person.  While this form of therapy ‘feels’ different than in-person therapy, it has the potential to provide a significant therapeutic experience.

Using a secure online connection, Clovis Counseling is able to offer services to those who may be unable to travel to the office for a variety of reasons.  At times, this makes consistency in therapy possible when the realities of life would otherwise interrupt therapeutic work.

Working together, we will determine the appropriateness of Teletherapy for you or your child’s particular needs and design a treatment plan to support our therapy goals.

Group Therapy

Many families share common needs and can often be served within a group context. Based on current demand, Clovis Counseling offers a variety of groups focusing on specific needs. Participation in group is determined collaboratively with the child and parent based on a completed assessment.

Groups are offered by topic and age group. Due to the need for multiple group members in order to provide an effective intervention, groups may not be offered year-around.

Please feel free to contact Clovis Counseling for a current listing of active groups. Among the groups offered are:

  • Anger Management
  • Social Skills
  • Coping Skills
  • Teen Support Group
  • Whole Brain Parenting
  • Positive Parenting: FAMILY Rules

School Consultations

It takes a village to raise a child. School is where children spend the majority of their day. Teachers, Administrators, Counselors, and Psychologists are among a number of other adults supporting a child’s growth. Communication between these individuals is key to ensuring that the child’s environment is one of collaboration and consistency.

Clovis Counseling offers consultation services to promote the necessary collaboration and consistency within the child’s environment and as part of their overall treatment. Among these services are attendance in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, Student Study Team (SST) meetings, and Parent/Teacher conferences, as well as working with your child’s teacher(s) to improve communication and support success.

Communication is key. When a child leaves the classroom, communication with parents, caregivers and family can be difficult. Follow-through with interventions at home often supports a student’s success in the classroom. Clovis Counseling offers consultation services to schools focused on connecting school, home and community resources in order to develop a consistent communication and intervention plan to support student success.
